-
We have 18 months to fulfill the
scope of the grant.
-
We will build 1.75 miles of new
trail that connects the large parking lot near the swimming
area to the rest of our trails on the mountain
-
We will renovate/rehabilitate
5.5 miles of existing trails
-
To accomplish this the grant
will help fund the purchase of various supplies, hiring of a 4
person trail crew, purchase of a trail building machine like a
Toro Dingo, and some contractual services
-
Total project budget: $64,650
-
We are looking for people with
skills, stamina and interest to join the trail crew. I will
send out an official job posting once it is finalized
-
We are looking for volunteers
whose work we can use to match the grant at $10/hour.
-
We are looking for any
businesses or individuals that have equipment that they can
operate to build trails. This type of work can also be used as
in-kind match at fair market value.
-
We are looking for people to get
excited that this grant gets us underway towards fulfilling
the estimated 15 miles of trails that we have planned for
Paris Mountain State Park
Thanks again to all of you for your
efforts. There are a lot of details and more information to pass
along regarding the above bullets. Feel free to contact the park
for more details.
Congratulations
to our Wayne Bower!
Wayne
Bower was nominated the 2003 SC Trail Volunteer of the Year by
The American Hiking Society because of his dedicated efforts to
improve the trails at Paris Mountain. Wayne is always
ready to put in the necessary sweat equity. In addition, to
helping organize trail work days.
Wayne
heads the trail committee of the Friends of Paris Mountain State
Park. As a reward for his dedication to improving
trails at Paris Mountain State Park Wayne received a nice
plaque, a Volunteer of the Year T-shirt and a pair of hiking
boots.
Thank you for the Happy Trails Wayne!
And now, from the "It doesn't
hurt to ask file…"
We have a campground project that needs about 20 yards of concrete.
That is not much. It’s the kind of thing concrete trucks have to
wash out of there trucks at the end of the day. So, be on the look
out for construction sites. Stop by and ask them if they wouldn't
mind dumping their extra concrete at Paris Mountain State Park for
a good cause.
We'll need about 2 hours "heads up" to
prep the site. So if you find someone generous give us a call as
soon as possible 244-5565.
Thanks for making this Greenville's
park.
