April 2004:
*4/5-4/8: We
finished the connection of the Mountain Creek Connector trail
to the Sulphur Springs Trail. Cutting the last 750 feet
was a pretty easy cut, through a very pretty section of woods.
We didn't have any problems with the dead pine trees that we
were foreseeing, which was cool.
*4/19-4/21: We
finished up a couple of problem areas on the Mountain Creek
Connector. We built a dry, rock creek crossing over the
one creek on the trail, it came out really nice. We also
finished cutting a section through the water easement that
adds a great feature to the trail. We were happy to see
that the trail is getting a lot of use. We masked the
trail and finished up everything to get ready for Friends Day.
*4/26-4/29:
Examined the Sulphur Springs trail and tried to develop a
solution for the soggy section between the trailhead and
Mountain Lake. Estimated cost of building a causeway for
this area, and tried to think of some different possible
solutions. We then started the preparation for the
Road-to-Trail Conversion of the Fire Tower Road Trail.
We laid out where the grade dips needed to be cut, and began
laying the pin flag line to make sure the trail has a good
flow.
