Jan. 7 - 10
Worked with four community service
volunteers on the connector trail and cut an additional five
hundred feet. The new section is going to be spectacular,
unlike any other section of trail in the park. Hands On
Greenville had their volunteer day on Saturday but the weather
didn't cooperate and they decided not to come out for trail
work that day.
Jan. 13 - 16
Met the Americorps team and worked
with them on tool safety and began working on the Lake Placid
trail to make it A.D.A., wheel chair accessible. The team did
a great job of removing some of the worst sections of roots
and finishing some of the trail tread. They have been a very
diverse group and very interesting to work with. We also were
lucky enough to have some community volunteers come out and
clear corridor for the new trail for us. Thanks Guys.
Jan. 20 - 23
We worked with a great mix of people
this week. The South Carolina Governor's School of the Arts
came out and worked with us in the morning and then it was
back to working with Americorps in the after noon. We all
really pushed hard and made a lot of progress this week. The
group was really inspired working side by side with Wayne (thanks,
man) He really showed those kids what hard work is.
Jan 27 - 30
Ice, Ice, Ice. We were subject to a nasty winter session.
We tried to break up the ice to get some traction for Twitch
to get to the trail but to no avail. So we worked on the
design and materials list for the boardwalk on the Lake Placid
Trail and hand built a short section of trail on the
connector.
Our tentative plans for next
month are to continue on the Lake Placid trail
Tuesday through Friday and get it knocked out. Saturday, 7th
of February, we will be doing a little redecorating
with the Hands On Greenville group. Then the following weeks
should be devoted to the connector trail. Our current
schedule has been Tuesdays though Friday. Come on out and
join the fun!
