Nearby the Greenville Spinners Bicycle Safety Foundation and their Put A Lid On It display about bike helmets. They may even be giving away a few helmets to help promote biking safey. What to do with the little kids? Over in the Playground Area will be Face Painting, the Go-Fish pond and Hide n Seek, while over at the Friends table will be the Scavenger Hunt. Back at the ball field, around 4 PM, will be the nonsense of the Mascot Soccer Game. Okay, these are better than average players, but the uniforms sometimes hinder their best shots. Sports Announcer John Ingles will be trying to handle the Bilo Bull, Greenville Growwwler, the Palmetto Pride Man, Merlin of the Furman Paladins, The Clemson Tiger, Bullfrog, Booker, Zip-It. Too much for me to follow. Food, you say. Of course, theres food. Bring your own or enjoy a sub sandwich from Subway of Travelers Rest. The RC Cola Special Event Wagon will be donating free RC Colas from their wagon and Sno-Cone will also have a booth. The Greenville Concert Band beside the lake under a tent is an unforgettable experience. The 50 +/- members create a sound that is rich in musical variety. But then so does the Paris Elementary School Chorus. Theyll be there with their dozens of young singers. Nick & Kathy Hallman and friends are The Nick Pickers, recognized as a classic Old Time String Band. They play fiddle, guitar and dulcimer and, of course, have some fine singing by Nick himself. Missy, their mascot and much-loved dog, usually doesnt sing but just looks cute. We will celebrate the 35th year of Earth Day. They will join us this year with local groups presenting environmental and educational booths to celebrate and promote awareness of the outdoors. The Sierra Club will have a display and will bring some hybrid cars. The Furman Earth and Environmental Sciences group will have a display on the geology of Paris Mountain and the Friends of Reedy River, Upstate Forever, and the Foothills Trail Conference will be present. We expect both the city and county recycling departments to also have displays.
